Limousin Herdsman’s Buckle Goes to Bruce

Each year, Limousin exhibitors at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colo., select one of their colleagues to receive the Herdsman of the Year award.

Rob Bruce of Etherton Farms, Dawson, Ill., received this year’s recognition in the form of a trophy belt buckle. Kent Andersen, Ph.D., executive vice president of the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF), and Lorrie Taylor, NALF member services specialist, made the presentation Jan. 15 in the NWSS Stadium Arena just after the naming of the grand champion Limousin bull.

This year’s other nominees were Brian Deatsman, Sennett Cattle Co., Waynetown, Ind.; Ty Heavin, Pinegar Limousin, Springfield, Mo.; and Dan Kelly, Express Ranches, Yukon, Okla.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services – including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires – to nearly 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim‑Flex® hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
