NALF Plans 40th Anniversary Kickoff at NWSS
The North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) continues to solidify its plans for the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colo. Among the breed’s activities, Jan. 13–16, 2008, are the NALF member social, NALF annual meeting and National Limousin Sale.
The sale parade will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13. The NALF member social will follow at 6 p.m. in the Doubletree Hotel Denver, and it will include the 2007 Medal of Excellence (MOE) show-awards presentations. As kickoff for the association’s 40th-anniversary year, Dale Runnion, NALF Hall of Fame recipient and publisher emeritus of the Limousin World, will reflect upon the Limousin breed’s first years in North America. NALF then will give special recognition to its 30-year members. After the social, the annual “Genetics on Ice” auction will benefit the North American Limousin Junior Association (NALJA) and the All-American Limousin Futurity (AALF).
The NALF annual meeting will open at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14; and President Wendell Geeslin of Platteville, Colo., will preside as members conduct the association’s business, including the election of five directors. As part of the annual meeting, NALF staff members will offer informational breakout sessions. The chief executive officer of the Italian Limousin breeders’ association also will extend a personal invitation to the 2008 International Limousin Conference (ILC) in Rome, Florence and Piacenza.
The first class of animals in the juniors’ female show will enter the ring at 2 p.m. Monday. Jake Scott of Gordon, Neb., will judge. The National Limousin Sale starts at 6 p.m. It will include the second annual Corner Post Genetics Package, for which Counsil Family Limousin of Madisonville, Texas, has donated the headline female – CFLX Cheerleader 002T, a maternal half-sibling to the multitrait-leading sire JCL Lodestar 27L.
The MOE Lim‑Flex® and Limousin shows begin Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 8 a.m. Matt Claeys, West Lafayette, Ind., will judge those entries.
The Limousin and Lim‑Flex pen and carload bull shows will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. Mark McCully, Wooster, Ohio; Bob Miller, Rushmore, Minn.; and Jered Shipman, Lockney, Texas, will officiate. NALF will name its Limousin Commercial Producer of the Year, Limousin Commercial Marketing Booster of the Year and Limousin Promoter of the Year during the shows.
NALF is planning its second annual Lim‑Flex female pen show and sale to follow the bull shows. Complete rules for those events are in the “Programs” section of the NALF Web site (www.nalf.org).
A complimentary lunch for NALF members and guests, beginning at noon Wednesday, will conclude the breed’s activities. Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colo., and Wulf Limousin Farms, Morris, Minn., are sponsoring the meal.
The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services – including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires – to nearly 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim‑Flex® hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
