NALF Introduces Online Transfers

Limousin and Lim‑Flex® breeders who have activated access to their secured, members-only portions of the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) Web site (www.nalf.org/members) now can go there to submit transfers for their recorded animals. The new tool is in the “Animal Data Recording” section of the member site’s home page.

To help launch the service, NALF is dropping the price to $10 for online transfers received during August, regardless of how much time has passed since the sale.

In addition to eliminating the time and expense associated with mailing traditional paper-based transfer applications, the online system helps sellers resolve all errors before they submit a transaction to NALF. Breeders can avoid delays further by contacting the NALF office at (303) 220-1693 to establish automatic credit-card billing.

“If NALF members haven’t accessed their secured member sites, the process is simple,” said Mary Zilk, bookkeeping and data processing administrator at NALF. “They should activate their online accounts, see what their member sites have to offer and save on their transfers.”

Seedstock-ownership transfers set the stage for satisfying relationships between commercial cow-calf producers and their genetic suppliers. They authenticate pedigree, performance and genetic information through the animals’ registration certificates and performance records. Those documents communicate genetic merit and provide essential information for maximizing profit from seedstock investments.

Profitable calf crops are the result of known, superior genetics because reputation is important to buyers looking for quality feeder calves and replacement females. There is no better way to document superior genetics than to buy registered seedstock and officially transfer their ownership.

Only registered Limousin and Lim‑Flex animals have reliable genetic and performance information available from NALF. Only registered seedstock have pedigree information officially documented to help cow-calf producers manage inbreeding and heterosis (hybrid vigor).

From the breeders’ perspective, transfers are the lifeblood of NALF’s commercial programs. They provide NALF with contact information so it can keep breed information before Limousin users throughout the year in the quarterly Bottom Line commercial newsletter, Limousin World commercial cattleman’s issue and other vehicles. The LimMark tagging program also depends upon properly transferred bulls.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services – including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires – to nearly 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim‑Flex® hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
