Online Transfers Expedite Customer Service
By Mary Zilk, bookkeeping and data processing administrator
The North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) has added the capability to transfer recorded animals online through the secured, members-only portion of its Web site (www.nalf.org/members). Simply log in to your member site. Under the “Recording” heading, click “Transfer Recorded Animals.”
Find an Animal
You can retrieve your entire herd inventory by clicking “Retrieve Inventory” right away, or you first can designate a sex and birthdate range (using the proper date format) to filter your list. You also can filter for animals from one of your linked memberships, using the droplist on the right labeled “Owner.” You can expect some delay as the system gathers information about your animals and previous buyers, but tighter search criteria will shorten your wait.
When your inventory appears, you can do several things.
- Scroll down to view your list.
- Go through the animals page by page by clicking “First,” “Previous,” “Next” or “Last.”
- Adjust the number of animals per page by changing the number in the “Display” box and clicking “Show Now.”
- Use the “Find an Animal” box to identify a specific animal and click “Find Now,” which will bring that animal to the top of the list.
2 Required, 4 Optional Fields
Once you have located the animal you want to transfer, you can begin completing the fields that apply to your transaction.
Begin with the buyer (required). If you previously have transferred to a buyer, you can click the “Select a Buyer” droplist, which shows member numbers and names sorted by member number. Click the member number you want.
You also can click “View List of Buyers,” which displays your recent buyers’ names and addresses. (You can add phone numbers and e‑mail addresses on that screen to maintain a buyers list.) Find the one you want, and jot down the member number or print the list by clicking “Print This Page.” Click “Return to Transfers” and choose “Select a Buyer,” where you highlight the member number you determined.
To show a more extensive list of buyers, use “Add buyers that have purchased animals since … ” and enter a different starting year. Click “Add Now” and expect a short delay while the system builds your list.
You also can click “Add a New Buyer” then add your buyer’s name and address or NALF number. Click “Save and Return” to complete the new buyer’s name.
Date of sale (required). You must provide a date of ownership for the animal. That date will show on the certificate as the buyer’s ownership date. Follow the example for proper format. The date cannot be in the future, and you cannot leave it blank.
Breeding information (optional). If you are transferring a bred female, click there to enter the data. If you have entered your natural-service and artificial-insemination (AI) sires in your bull battery, you will be able to pull up their nicknames in the sire’s registration-prefix field. Click “Submit Breeding Data” to provide the breeding data for your buyer’s bred female’s performance record.
Antibiotic- and hormone-free (optional). Check the box if you guarantee the animal has been raised from birth or maintained since the date of initial ownership without antibiotics and growth hormones.
Certificate to buyer unless indicated (optional). Check the box if you want NALF to send the new certificate to you instead of your buyer.
Sale lot number (optional). You should complete that field only if you sold the animal in a sale, not by private treaty.
‘Performance-Only’ Cattle
One other option currently available is to register and transfer an animal that is on file with NALF as an unregistered male (URM) or unregistered female (URF) “performance-only” animal. Simply locate the animal using one of the previously described methods and check the “Register” box. Once it is checked, the remaining transfer fields will become available; complete them as previously described. If you choose to change the animal’s name, you also can do so at that time.
Error-Proof Transactions
When you have completed the necessary steps for all of the animals you want to transfer, click “Save for Later Submission” or “Submit to NALF.” If you have any errors or missing information, they will show in bold red characters, with a description of the error below each animal. All errors must be resolved before submitting to NALF.
If you click “Submit to NALF” and there are no errors, a new screen with all of your data will appear. You can print it for your records. If the data is correct, click “Accept” to send it to NALF. (The system then will send an e‑mail message confirming receipt of the transfers, which it will process during the next business day.) If the data is not correct, click “Decline” to return to the transfer area and make the necessary changes.
NALF’s standard billing system will govern the issuance of certificates. NALF will send an invoice and release the data upon receipt of payment. You also can avoid delays by contacting the NALF office to establish automatic credit-card billing.
Get a Special Rate in August
To help launch its new online animal-transfer tool, the North American Limousin Foundation (NALF) is dropping the price to $10 for Internet transactions received during August. You read correctly: No matter how much time has passed since the sale, NALF will charge only $10 when you transfer a registered animal via the secured, members-only portion of its Web site.
Transfers are the lifeblood of NALF’s commercial programs. They provide your association with contact information so it can keep breed information before Limousin users throughout the year. The LimMark tagging program also depends upon properly transferred bulls. Submit your transfers online so NALF can add value to your seedstock sales in the timeliest fashion.
